V60 Guide

Introduction:

Want complete control over your coffee brewing? The Hario V60 is for you. This pour-over method lets you fine-tune every aspect of the brewing process, making it ideal for coffee lovers who like to experiment. The entire process takes just about three minutes.

What You Need for 1 Cup:

  • Hario V60 Brewer
  • Hario V60 Filter
  • Grinder
  • 18 grams of Travesia Coffee
  • Hot Water Just Off the Boil (195°F – 205°F)
  • Scale
  • Timer
  • Mug

Brewing time: 3 minutes

Steps:

1. Fold and Rinse the Filter:

Shape your filter into a cone, place it in the V60, and rinse with hot water. This removes any paper taste and preheats your brewer. Discard the rinse water.

2. Grind and Measure:

Grind 18 grams of coffee to a medium consistency (in between fine and coarse), like kosher salt, and add it to the V60.

3. Bloom:

Pour 40 ml of hot water right off the boil (about 205°F) over the grounds, just enough to saturate them, and let it bloom for 45 seconds. Watch as the coffee bed rises and bubbles—this is fresh coffee at its finest.

4. First Pour:

Slowly pour 140 ml of water in a circular motion, bringing the total to 180 ml. Give the V60 a gentle swirl to keep the filter from clogging. Let it sit until 1:15.

5. Second Pour:

Continue pouring the remaining 120 ml in the same circular motion, bringing the total to 300 ml. Let the coffee drip through until about the 2:45 and 3:00 mark.

6. Stir and Serve:

Remove the V60, stir your coffee, and pour it into a warm mug. Enjoy your perfectly balanced cup!
