Introduction:
Ready to take on the challenge of crafting a killer espresso? It takes a bit of practice, but that’s where the fun begins! The grind, coffee weight, and timing all come into play, and you’ll probably need to tweak these elements a few times to nail your perfect shot. But don’t worry—every attempt gets you closer to espresso greatness.
What You Need for 1 Espresso Shot:
- Espresso Machine with Portafilter
- Grinder
- Tamper
- 18-21 grams of Travesia Coffee
- Timer
- Scale
- Knock Box
Brewing time: 2 minutes
Steps:
1. Grind and Dose:
Remove your portafilter, give it a quick wipe, and dry the basket. Place it on the scale and zero it out, then grind about 18 grams of coffee directly into the portafilter, aiming for a fine consistency. Tap to settle the grounds, then evenly distribute them with a distribution tool. Tamp and ensure the bed is level.
2. Prep your Espresso Machine:
Run water through the grouphead to ensure it’s hot, then lock your portafilter in place.
3. Pull the Shot:
Turn on your espresso machine and start your timer. Place a cup under the portafilter and watch for that steady, rich stream of espresso. The magic happens in about 30 seconds, giving you around 36 grams of espresso (1:2 ratio). If it takes longer or shorter, adjust your grind accordingly.
4. Serve and Enjoy your journey:
Pour your shot, take in the aroma, and enjoy your journey to espresso perfection!
